Public reporting burden for this collection of information is estimated to average 1 hour per response, including the time for reviewing instructions, searching existing data sources, gathering and maintaining the data needed, and completing and reviewing this collection of information. Send comments regarding this burden estimate or any other aspect of this collection of information, including suggestions for reducing this burden This technical report investigates the characteristics of compression noise in images and motion imagery compressed by scalar quantization of the data's two-or three-dimensional wavelet transform coefficients. Such quantization noise is both experimentally and theoretically shown to be spatially varying in the pixel domain, with statistical correlations between the errors at the pixel locations. A quantization noise covariance matrix is presented that can find use in general restoration scenarios where the observed image or images have been compressed by scalar quantization of the data's wavelet coefficients. Several restoration examples, including de-blurring for the single-image case and temporal filtering for the motion-imagery case, are provided to demonstrate the quantization noise model's advantage over the common assumption of independent and identically distributed noise.

Temporal Filtering of Wavelet−Compressed Motion Imagery (MA−P3)
Temporal filtering of motion imagery can alleviate the effects of noise and artifacts in the data by incorporating observations of the imagery data from several distinct frames. If the noise that is expected to occur in the data is well−modeled by independent and identically distributed (IID) Gaussian noise, then straightforward algorithms can be designed to filter along motion trajectories in ...
متن کاملSingular Value Decomposition based Steganography Technique for JPEG2000 Compressed Images
In this paper, a steganography technique for JPEG2000 compressed images using singular value decomposition in wavelet transform domain is proposed. In this technique, DWT is applied on the cover image to get wavelet coefficients and SVD is applied on these wavelet coefficients to get the singular values. Then secret data is embedded into these singular values using scaling factor. Different com...
متن کاملAn Efficient Algorithm for ℓ 0 Minimization in Wavelet Frame Based Image Restoration
Wavelet frame based models for image restoration have been extensively studied for the past decade [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]. The success of wavelet frames in image restoration is mainly due to their capability of sparsely approximating piecewise smooth functions like images. Most of the wavelet frame based models designed in the past are based on the penalization of the l1 norm of wavelet frame coeff...

متن کاملCompressed Sensing for Moving Imagery in Medical Imaging
Numerous applications in signal processing have benefited from the theory of compressed sensing which shows that it is possible to reconstruct signals sampled below the Nyquist rate when certain conditions are satisfied. One of these conditions is that there exists a known transform that represents the signal with a sufficiently small number of non-zero coefficients. However when the signal to ...
